In usual circumstances, workers seeking compensation must file their claims within two years.  However, recognizing that symptoms of a WTC-related health problem may emerge after two years, New York State has created a mechanism, administered by the WCB, through which city employees who are potentially at risk for developing a WTC-related deadline, can remain eligible for workers’ compensation benefits IF they register by August 14, 2008. 

Uniformed employees from FDNY, NYPD and DSNY, and pedagogical employees from the DOE are NOT eligible for Workers’ Compensation.
